Step-by-Step Procedure for Obtaining an FSSAI License

Step 1: Determine the Type of License Required

Businesses must first identify whether they need Basic, State, or Central License based on turnover, scale of operations, and business model.

Step 2: Gather Required Documents

The following documents are needed for the FSSAI license application:
Identity proof and address proof of the business owner.
Business registration certificate (Partnership deed, Incorporation Certificate, etc.).
Food safety management plan and proof of premises ownership.
List of food products being manufactured or sold.
Water quality test reports (for manufacturing businesses).

The license fee varies based on the type and duration of the license (1-5 years). The fee can be paid online through the FoSCoS portal.

Step 6: Inspection by FSSAI Authorities
  • After submission, the FSSAI department reviews the application and may schedule an inspection.
  • A Food Safety Officer visits the business premises to verify hygiene standards and compliance.
  • If any issues are found, the business is given time to correct them before approval.
Step 7: Issuance of FSSAI License

Once the inspection is successfully completed and all documents are verified, the FSSAI issues the license. The business receives a 14-digit FSSAI license number, which must be displayed on product packaging and premises.
